"My desire was and is to make sportswear elegant and chic. Adidas is a very personal inspiration to me. It enriches my creative life".
- Yohji Yamamoto, 2011.
Today we want to talk you a little bit about Adidas Y-3.
First of all, what about the name of the luxury sportswear label? We know that the Y letter stands for the name of the Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto and that the 3 represents Adidas' three signature stripes. And, of course, "The - signifies the bond between the two". That's the perfect fusion of the two sportswear brands.
The based in Paris and Japan Yohji Yamamoto - which used to work together with labels like Hermès, Mandarina Duck and Mikimoto - debuts with the German multinational corporation Adidas with his first line and collection in 2003.
Since then his work with Adidas is intense and loved all around the world.
His creative and aesthetic vision was celebrated with a film documentary called "This is my dream".
After 15 years of collaboration the result is the Adidas Y-3 Spring/Summer 2018 advertising campaign: Footwear first, but fashionable.
"The season’s silhouette is loose, voluminous, and cut generously away from the body".
Minimal is the way.
